Corrugated foam packaging solves FRU protection problem
1 December 2023
This field replaceable unit (FRU) had minimal load-bearing area. Yet it was both expensive and delicate.
The customer needed protective packaging to ensure replacement units could be safely transported to their destination but had no idea how to develop it. They also had a (rapidly approaching) deadline looming over them for the despatch of the FRUs. The company approached us for assistance.
Our packaging engineers suggested developing a custom hybrid cradle that unit could sit in. This would increase the size of the load-bearing area.
The ultimate design incorporated both strong corrugated cardboard and shock-absorbing foam. This pack passed the customer’s drop tests, and they were able to qualify the new packaging and begin shipping out the FRUs.
